Manda Bay Newsletter
January 2010
We had a wonderfully festive Christmas and New Year with lots of really super and fun guests staying. The wind never got up for the entire 2 weeks so we had picture perfect weather.
The fishing has been excellent with plenty of Black Marlin and Striped Marlin and Sailfish coursing the waters and although Cheza has not been out everyday, when she has the homecomings have been triumphant. A Grand Slam is no longer such a difficult accomplishment these days – perhaps this is thanks to the Somali pirates and not having trawlers fishing our waters. Who knows??
Utamaduni has been working endlessly taking sundowners and lunch parties. We had a great kite-surfing week leading up to Christmas with 8 kites out. We are definitely keen to keep a kite instructor here during peak times and on request to run kite surfing courses in the future.
Andy has completed the building of Inshallah, a dhow built for a friend in Botswana. It sails beautifully and is currently on anchor at Manda until such time as she makes a voyage to Mozambique to her new home Charlie has had a busy holiday season with plenty of flying – both charters and Scenic flights in the area. The drought is fairly severe here with not much at all for the Buffalo to eat and we are again looking for hay to put out for them until the rains arrive in April, which is still a long way off. We have had lovely evenings over on Manda Toto walking and bonfires and of course a Dawa to finish off a perfect day in paradise!! Lastly to remind you that Manda is open all year round so we will not close in May and June as in previous years. |
